National Honor Society 2025 (Re-established)

SAA Re-established the National Honor Society in 2025!  The multipurpose room filled up, families found their seats, and the atmosphere had that quiet buzz that happens when everyone knows something meaningful is about to happen. A

After decades without a chapter, SAA officially brought back the National Honor Society. It felt natural, like we were putting something back that always belonged.

NHS is Back

The sources are a bit incomplete but the earliest record of NHS on the SAA campus was 1975.  Then after a multi decade absence, we decided to bring it back because the values behind National Honor Society match who our students are becoming.

Our students already work hard academically (see the AP program here), help others, lead when needed, and try to grow into their faith. NHS gives them a clear path to keep developing those habits.

During the ceremony, our faculty talked about how naturally each NHS pillar lines up with our School Wide Learner Outcomes.

  • Scholarship fits curiosity and grit.
  • Service fits compassion and community.
  • Leadership fits responsibility.
  • Character fits integrity and faith.

Our students already practice these values. NHS gives them a more intentional way to grow them.

NHS Eligibility at SAA

Since we’re rebuilding this chapter the right way, we set straightforward expectations. Nothing complicated. Here’s what membership takes at SAA.

  • Grade level: We consider mostly juniors and seniors because they have enough academic and service experience to evaluate fairly and meet the guidelines established by the National Honor Society.
  • GPA requirement: Students need a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale. This also matches national NHS guidelines.
  • Service: Students need a well established service record. This includes helping at SAA, church involvement, community projects, and other meaningful service activities.
  • Leadership and character: Students should show reliability, initiative, kindness, respect, and steady follow through. This includes classrooms, teams, church groups, and friendships.

These expectations make NHS a natural fit for SAA.

The Ceremony

The ceremony itself is simple and grounded. Faculty members share what each NHS pillar looks like in real life.

Then the group is inducted into the National Honor Society by reciting the NHS pledge, getting pinned and signing the registration.

Looking Ahead

Reestablishing National Honor Society in 2025 at SAA is the start of a new rhythm for us. Students are already asking how to qualify next year. Some are thinking about their service record. Others are talking with teachers about leadership roles. NHS gives students a direction to grow into, not a finish line.

This first group set a strong foundation. We’re excited to see where it goes in the future.
