School safety is a promise SAA strives to keep every day. From secure campus entryways to digital boundaries, we work hard to create an environment where every child can learn, grow, and thrive—physically, emotionally, spiritually, and online. Safety at SAA means more than locked gates, communication systems, or security systems (physical and digital): it’s a holistic commitment that reaches from playgrounds to computer screens, and from classrooms to the heart of each student.
For privacy and security reasons, we don’t share every safety protocol online—but rest assured, our investment in campus safety is both robust and ongoing.

SAA’s campus safety measures begin at the gate—literally. Our Carmichael campus is fully fenced, with locked gates and monitored entry for all visitors, ensuring a secure environment for students from preschool through high school. Every staff member is equipped with a radio for rapid response, and all students and staff participate in regular drills, following the Standard Response Protocol, a nationally recognized system.
We partner with local law enforcement and emergency services, maintaining procedures that allow them quick access to campus if needed.
All SAA employees have at least all of the following required safety trainings:

Safety at SAA goes beyond the physical. Our on-campus counselor, resource teachers, and classroom aides work together to provide students with the support they need to feel heard, respected, and valued. Any issues—big or small—are addressed promptly, respectfully, and always in line with California law and the Adventist Education Code.
We regularly host assemblies on bullying prevention, empathy, and emotional wellness, helping students develop the tools to care for themselves and others.

At SAA, faith and character are cornerstones of our approach to safety. Our full-time chaplain and Campus Ministries team, along with passionate Bible teachers, guide students through spiritual challenges and encourage growth in a supportive, inclusive environment. Weekly chapels, student-led programs, and classroom discussions foster a community built on kindness, integrity, and respect for all.
We recognize that the spiritual journey isn’t perfect and spiritual maturity varies from individual to individual but our goal as a school is still the same: Encourage healthy spiritual growth.
Student protection is at the heart of our mission. Every staff member and volunteer at SAA completes a federal background check, fingerprinting, and mandatory child abuse prevention training before ever working with students. This includes CA’s AB506 Mandated Reporter Training—and it’s a non-negotiable requirement for every volunteer. Interested in joining us as a volunteer? Learn about the process and requirements here.
We maintain a strict code of conduct, foster open communication, and respond promptly to any concern—always complying with the law, our Pacific Union Education Code, and our own high standards.
Questions or need to report a concern? The NCC Child Safety Office is also a resource for our community.
In our digital world, campus safety includes online spaces too. All student devices connected to our network are protected by advanced filters and monitored for inappropriate or unsafe content. Our IT team regularly updates systems to keep ahead of new digital threats. School-issued devices are managed with age-appropriate restrictions, and teachers supervise device use during class.
Students receive regular classroom lessons on responsible technology use, best practices for online, and digital citizenship—including recognizing and preventing cyberbullying. Our commitment to digital safety extends beyond school walls: we encourage families to check out resources on our Parent Information page for tips on keeping kids safe online at home.
