Carmichael, CA – SAA is thrilled to announce that Tammy Turk has been selected as the 2025 AAMP Teacher of the Year by the Adventist Association of Movement Professionals (AAMP). A live stream link will be provided so that staff, students, and families can celebrate this incredible achievement together.

Leading with Movement, Purpose, and Passion

For years, Tammy has been more than a teacher—she has been a mentor, coach, and role model, inspiring students to see movement as a path to both personal growth and community connection. Her classes extend beyond physical activity, emphasizing the importance of perseverance, teamwork, and self-discipline. Whether guiding a student through a fitness challenge or helping a team rally after a tough loss, she encourages effort over outcome and the pursuit of continuous improvement—principles that serve her students well beyond their time at SAA.

Her approach to physical education is rooted in balance—not just the kind that keeps students steady on a balance beam, but the kind that fosters mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being alongside physical health. Tammy has helped her students understand that caring for their bodies is just as important as strengthening their minds and hearts, integrating lessons in health, resilience, and faith into every aspect of her teaching.

“Tammy’s work is about so much more than just fitness,” said [Principal’s Name], principal of Sacramento Adventist Academy. “She creates an environment where students learn the value of hard work, self-discipline, and the power of lifting each other up. She doesn’t just prepare students for success in sports—she prepares them for success in life.”

AAMP Teacher of the Year: Honoring Excellence in Movement Education

Each year, AAMP selects one educator who has made a transformative impact on student wellness. The award is reserved for teachers who go beyond traditional physical education, helping students develop lifelong healthy habits, build confidence, and understand the deep connection between movement and overall well-being.

Tammy’s influence extends far beyond the gymnasium, field, and pickle ball court. She has played a key role in:

  • Expanding student access to fitness programs and athletics
  • Promoting wellness initiatives that integrate faith and movement
  • Developing leadership opportunities through physical education
  • Helping students set and achieve personal wellness goals

Her ability to blend movement with mentorship has had a profound effect on students of all ages, giving them the tools to push past challenges, build meaningful relationships, and embrace an active, fulfilling lifestyle.

A Lasting Impact at SAA

Tammy’s dedication to teaching, coaching, and inspiring students embodies everything that makes Sacramento Adventist Academy a special place. In her time at SAA, she has helped students discover their strengths, support one another, and develop the kind of grit that carries them through life’s toughest moments. Her leadership in physical education is a reflection of the school’s mission to cultivate balanced, high-achieving students who lead with integrity and purpose.

Her students leave her classes not just with stronger muscles, but with a stronger sense of self. They learn to embrace the hard work that leads to progress, the resilience that turns setbacks into comebacks, and the friendships that make every challenge worth it.
