Disc Golf at SAA

Little Oaks Disc Golf Course: A Teacher’s Passion Turned Community Treasure

Most people don’t expect to hear the clanging of disc golf chains echoing through an oak grove behind a K–12 school—but they’re there at SAA.

Little Oaks is what happens when a 4th grade teacher with a love for the game looks around campus and says, “You know what would fit here?” Then actually goes out and builds it. It’s not a half-done practice loop or a PE class experiment. It’s a real 18-hole course—technical in spots, open in others, and just plain fun to play.

Winding through trees, past classrooms, and over open fields, Little Oaks is now a favorite of students, local players, and anyone lucky enough to get an appointment on a Sunday. If you like the discs whooshing through the air in the woods and a course with heart, you’ll feel right at home.

A Course with Heart (and a Few Tree Kicks)

Little Oaks didn’t come from a grant or a committee. It came from Chris Duckett, SAA’s 4th grade teacher who happens to love disc golf. He started shaping fairways around campus trees in 2022, and over time—with a little sweat, some creativity, and a lot of support—it turned into something special.  Some have even said it’s one of the best disc golf courses near Sacramento.

Now it’s an 18-hole layout that balances short shots, long drives, elevation changes, and enough curveballs to keep things fun. Local players love it, students use it, and on Sundays, you can too.

The name “Little Oaks” is a shoutout to our on-campus preschool and the grove of trees that define the landscape here.

Why Built It?

We’re big believers in fresh air, community, and doing things a little differently around here. Little Oaks isn’t just a course—it’s a place where students, families, and disc golfers from around town can come out, throw a few shots, and enjoy the day.

It’s one of the many ways we live out our mission of helping our community grow spiritually, mentally, and physically. And sometimes that growth happens with a disc in hand and a birdie on the scorecard.
