11th Grandparent Day at SAA: A Kindergarten Tradition

Mr. Mike’s 11th Grandparent Day at SAA fills the campus with excitement as kindergartners welcome their grandparents into their world of learning. Laughter, storytelling, and hands-on activities create a morning of unforgettable memories. Grandparents watch in awe as their grandchildren confidently share what they know, proving just how much education has evolved.

A Growing Tradition

For 11 years, Mr. Mike has organized Grandparent Day at SAA, making it a must-attend event for families. “I started doing this because the teacher before me did, and I loved the idea,” he says. “Bringing families onto campus lets them see what we do and why we do it. And the kids? They love having their grandmas and grandpas here.”

Grandparents eagerly show up, some traveling across the country to be part of the experience. One dedicated grandparent flew in from Washington, D.C., just to see their grandchild in action this year.

A Day Packed with Learning and Fun

The morning begins like any other school day—calendar time, singing, and classroom routines. But soon, students take the lead and guide their grandparents through a special day of activities.

  • Learning Time: Students proudly explain what they’ve been studying, from dinosaurs to the solar system to (this year’s favorite) the human body. They walk their grandparents through the circulatory and digestive systems, throwing in fun bone facts along the way. One grandparent laughs, “We weren’t learning that in kindergarten!”
  • Crafts: Grandparents and kids work together on a hands-on project, creating a keepsake to take home. Paint, glue, and creative energy fill the room as they craft something special together.
  • Storytime: Students wrap up the morning by reading aloud stories they’ve been practicing in class. Grandparents listen closely, soaking in every word like they’re at a best-selling author’s book signing.

More Than Just a Fun Event

The 11th Grandparent Day at SAA strengthens family connections and reminds students that learning is something to celebrate. Grandparents experience firsthand how their grandchildren grow and thrive at SAA, making this event a cherished tradition.

For the school, the day reinforces the importance of community and partnership between home and classroom. Events like this showcase why families love SAA and why students feel so at home here.
